Red-Tail Trail (Carnegie SVRA)
Red-Tail Trail Redesign
With the help of the Carnegie Task Force, a portion of Red-Tail Trail was redesigned from a straight vertical trail to a trail which winds along the contour of the slope. The trail had become approximately 30 feet wide and denude of vegetation causing accelerated erosion.
Using soil from sediment ponds, Park staff placed the soil back onto the hill and recontoured the hill. The Carnegie Task Force and Park staff designed the new trail to reduce sediment loss and provide a technical riding opportunity. The area surrounding the trail was seeded with native vegetation and straw wattles were placed to prevent erosion until the vegetation was reestablished.
