Safe Riding Starts With You - Ocotillo Wells
Have a safe ride with these simple tips…
Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) cares for the safety of all of our visitors enjoying the desert whether you are camping, or operating an off-highway vehicle (OHV). We remind our visitors to employ safe practices and always be aware of your surroundings. Below you will find safety tips and regulations while riding and recreating in the park. The rangers and staff of Ocotillo Wells are dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable desert riding environment, and to ensuring that a quality experience remains available for future generations.
TAKE IT SLOW
Keep your speed under 15 MPH when riding near campsites or groups of people.
SCOUT YOUR ROUTE
Check for unexpected drop-offs in washes, and know what is on the other side of a hill or dune.
BE HARDHEADED
Always wear properly fitted and secured helmets and safety equipment.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS
Only operate at speeds in which you can maintain control at all times. Don’t ride faster than your talent. Speed kills.
FLAGS UP FOR SAFETY
Orange or red flags are required to ride ATVs. Your whip must be securely mounted and extend 8 feet
from the surface of the ground.
NEVER GO ALONE
Always ride with at least one other person, but preferably in groups of three. If one rider is hurt, someone can stay with the rider while the other one gets help. Never move an injured rider.
TREAD LIGHTLY
Protect your right to play ... remember, wildlife has the right of way!
