What is Junior Rangers?

“Junior Rangers” gather at more than 70 state parks from the redwood region, to the high sierra, to the sunny Southern California beaches. Children ages 7 to 12 are invited to take part in this exciting program, designed to help them discover the rich natural and cultural heritage preserved in parks.

Junior Rangers at Silver Strand State Beach

At Silver Strand State Beach, the Junior Ranger program takes place most Saturdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
Kids can earn the California State Parks Junior Ranger badge, and other awards as they progress through the program.
Activities take place outside, so please dress for the weather. If you have concerns about the sun, please remember your sunscreen, hat, and any other sun protection you require. Feel free to bring a bottle of water to drink during the activity.

Where we meet

Junior Ranger programs will begin near the tables outside the lifeguard headquarters. Look for the four-story-high tower on the ocean-side of the highway.

Activities may take us to different areas of Silver Strand State Beach, but we will begin and end outside the lifeguard headquarters.

For Parents and Guardians

Junior Rangers is designed for children ages 7-12.

The Jr. Ranger program is offered free of charge, but there is a fee to drive into or park inside the state beach.

Each Jr. Ranger must be signed up by a parent or guardian. This may be done before the beginning of each program. (Adults are also welcome to attend with their kids.)

A parent or guardian should be available at the beach during Jr. Ranger programs, in case of an emergency.
