I support this project because trails support communities and healthy lifestyles. Without these projects, our trails would fall into disrepair and unsustainable. Additionally these projects create local employment opportunities, the ability for volunteers to get involved in giving back to our trails and growing economies through recreational opportunities. Thank you for making these grants available for these projects. Kate Sage - 3/8/17

I'm a representative of Trails for Recreation and Community (TRAC) a local volunteer organization dedicated to improving the local economy and recreation experience via trails. We strongly support the efforts of Plumas County and the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) to improve local trails via this grant. The SBTS sets the Gold Standard among trail advocacy groups at building and maintaining trails for this area. They have a proven track record of working successfully with the Forest Service and Plumas County for trail Planning and eventual Construction. The trail system on Mt. Hough that was developed through previous grants has been an overwhelming success. Expanding the system will be of great value to the community, the economy and of course recreational OHV enthusiasts. I should add that there has been great cooperation with other user groups such as hikers and mountain bikers who are also enjoying these trails. I think the trails indicated in the Grant as #2, 4, and 5 are of particular interest. These trails provide ideal linkages and loop opportunities as well as enjoying a long season free of snow due to their lower elevation and south facing aspect. Trail #5 especially is an incredible setting and will add huge value to the trail network. These trails are noted as follows: "2. Connect Indian Falls Ridge 2 to existing Keddie Trail 4. Create trail exit from the bottom of Mt Hough and Berry Creek that avoids users having to cross the Union Pacific Railroad track and reroutes to the base of the Mt Hough road 5. Connect Keddie Trail to the base of Mt Hough" I look forward to volunteering my time to help make this grant a success. Thank you, Ron Heard - 3/8/17

I support this project for the recreational and economic benefits it brings to the community. Luke Pascucci - 3/8/17

I wholeheartedly support grants for the Mount Hough trail system. Plumas County is economically depressed. Building and maintaining recreational trails will in turn entice recreational user groups to our county. The economic benefit could be substantial! Kimberly Kaznowski - 3/9/17

The SBTS sets the Gold Standard among trail advocacy groups at building and maintaining trails for this area. This group has developed an incredibly popular trail system that enjoys widespread support of the local community. Plumas County is one of the poorest counties in the state, and this trail system provides economic activity that is much appreciated. As a trail system, the OHV community of course has enjoyed the opportunity to ride environmentally sound but fun trails. We strongly support this grant application and I look forward to volunteering my time on these trails in support of this grant. Ron Heard - 3/8/17

To California OHV Commission, I strongly support Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) and their mission of improving the trails and communities of Sierra and Plumas County. Their current Ground Operations proposal would not only improve the trail system that sees 60,000+ users but also complete necessary, long lasting maintenance so in the future these trails can withstand the high use while avoiding impacting local watersheds and wildlife. My family spends a great amount of time in Downieville and the “Lost Sierra” area during the summer. We hike, ride, camp, fish, backpack, and generally enjoy spending as much time as possible in these areas. I have ridden the mountain bike trails with my son and hiked many trails with my daughter. I fully understand the importance of maintaining these trails for safety. I also understand the work involved in building and maintaining trails as I have participated in volunteer trail work events. In addition to completing necessary maintenance SBTS also promotes the diverse communities and economies of Sierra and Plumas County. These small mountain communities are in the process of diversifying their economies and recreation provides an important piece to that puzzle. SBTS is committed to training and employing a local professional trail crew. Their youth program hires local students in the summer providing job skills, life skills, and mentorship while the students work on public lands in their home town. They support small businesses for their printing needs, vehicle maintenance, utilize independent hotels, local breweries and restaurants for events all going back to the mission of promoting the trails and communities of Plumas and Sierra County. If it were not for SBTS, the economic impact to the surrounding communities would be greatly impacted. Sincerely, Matt Underwood - 3/9/17

As Outdoor Education Coordinator for the Plumas Unified School District I am concerned with access to public land for our K-12 students. The quality and quantity of trails in our region are a critical element of that access as they focus student attention on recreational and stewardship elements of the environment in which we live. Our most recent program innovation is called Outdoor Core which intends to grow the frequency and depth of outdoor experiences at every grade level. Expanding trails will assist us in having more options for our students as they develop healthy activity habits and a lifelong stewardship relationship to the land. New trails on Mount Hough will help us to provide these opportunities for all of our public school children. On behalf of the Plumas Unified School District, I strongly encourage California State Parks to approve this program proposal. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further comment. To OHV Commission, Please support this project with Plumas County. Plumas County is still recovering from staggering unemployment rates and trying to diversify our small rural economy. This project would employ locals in the planning, NEPA, and layout phases while also engaging local volunteers to get their input and buy into the project. Additionally this project would help bring recreational tourists to Plumas County. The partnership between Plumas County and SBTS is also unique and its exciting to see what government agencies and non profits can do for our area when working together. Thanks Michael Hall - 3/10/17

I fully support the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s ongoing cooperation with the Forest Service and the public. They are such an asset to the entire Lost Sierra region. The trail work that is done benefits so many people and our environment in so many ways. Having worked with other non-profit groups previously, I must say that no one does it better than SBTS. This is a time when recreational activity in the area is becoming greater, and the need for sustainable trails is a must. With these projects, the SBTS is able to provide work for the locals by employing full time employees, they are also able to coordinate multiple trail work opportunities. I love the fact that so many opportunities are available for individuals to contribute. It is nice to see these projects put into action, and knowing that many individuals are able to come together to make it happen. I am excited to see a sustainable future for our trails and local communities by having grants available for projects that the SBTS is proposing. For me, seeing projects like this are no small task. I appreciate and commend the hard work that the SBTS dedicates to improving the trail system for all users, not just Mountain Bikers and hikers like myself. I have ridden a small portion of the Downieville area and in the Graeagle area. I just recently started exploring some of the new trails outside of Quincy. Living in Paradise, it’s such a small distance for me to travel to go enjoy the beauty the area has to offer. I enjoy supporting the local economy and appreciate the hard work that goes into these trails. It can be seen on all the work that they do. I love the fact that these projects also get the youth out to learn about land management. Please approve everything that the SBTS has applied for. Thank you, Torey Feldhaus - 3/11/17

Hough trail network. Trail connectivity is extremely important to having a trail network that draws in both local residents and visitors from other parts of California. Being able to do multiple loops on different trails within a trail network like Mt. Hough enhances the outdoor experience, which is a valuable asset for the Quincy community as a recreation destination, bringing much needed tourism dollars and employment to Plumas County. Mt. Hough is quickly becoming a model nationally for well thought out trail design that accommodates the needs of all recreational users, both motorized and non-motorized. It would be terrific to see the continued success of the Mt. Hough project through further OHV grant funding. Kurt Gensheimer - 3/13/17

I am in support of grants that fund trail maintenance and upkeep in the Mt. Hough trail network. These multi-use trails are valuable to the community of Quincy and Plumas County, as they are employing local residents as well as volunteers, developing a more vibrant outdoor recreation community and bringing in much-needed tourism dollars. Comments :
I have ridden the current Mt. Hough trail several times in the last year, and this is a spectacular location for an expanded trail network. Additionally, the town of Quincy would receive addition monetary input from recreational users coming into the area. Jeffrey Gicklhorn - 3/14/17

I ride OHV dirtbikes and mountain bikes is the Plumas NF. The Mt. Hough trail system needs the maintenance & the improvements proposed in this grant. This is my favorite riding area of all Northern California. Please help keep this valuable resource for my son & his kids too. Thanks! Mike Chaplin - 3/16/17

This letter is in support of Mt Hough new trail development. The recreational opportunities afforded by the current Mt Hough trail system are fantastic - though future interconnections in that trail system will make it world-class! The area is experiencing a new type of economic growth through outdoor recreation including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, OHV touring, etc. Multi-use trails are the key to such development. An additional benefit is in the creation of local employment to maintain those trails. I truly hope that the current sustainable resource growth and development continues in the region and that the area remains my fun backcountry playground for years to come. Robert Bixler MD Dept Chief Urgent Care Sutter Medical Group - 3/18/17

I fully support this project. By allowing the SBTS to connect the trails on Hough, it will make for an amazing trail experience. Hough is already becoming a recreation destination, bringing in tourist dollars to Plumas county. Allowing SBTS to continue to build and maintain trails on Hough will only help this continue as well as providing jobs to local residents. Getting people stoked on trails and the Quincy area will help create stewards of the area for a life time. Elisabeth Johnson - 3/18/17

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship provides recreation, economic development, local employment and create sustainable trail systems that require less trail maintenance in Plumas county. Chuck Bonovich - 3/18/17

Increased opportunities for locals and tourists creates local employment creates sustainable trail systems that require less maintenance. Mike OBrien - 3/18/17

I support these trails because they support recreation in our area. When people come and use these trails they are more integrated into the community. This area will start to be more of a destination. This is important for me as a community member because the organization I work for is reliant on community partnerships and donations. The larger the community, the more connections can be made between local organizations. This ultimately helps the economy of the area. On this same note, this area struggles with providing employment to local people and this project could potentially create jobs for people in the area. Lastly, as an avid mountain biker and hiker, I support the creation of sustainable trail systems that require less maintenance so that my friends and I are able to enjoy recreating in Plumas County for years to come. Megan Hollenbeck - 3/18/17

I've been traveling to Downieville, Portola and Qunicy for almost 20 years to ride bikes and enjoy the forest. Now I live in White Hawk in Clio. As time has gone on I've realized the possitive impact of recreation on the local economy. Trail infustructure is vital to this area because of the massive decrease in employment due to bans on logging and mining. In addition to the economic boost, the community of volunteers and stewardship members have maintained trails throughout the Lost Sierra, resulting in healthy relationships with many user groups and forest advocates. With the additional trails being proposed I look forward to being part of the positive community that the Sierra Trail Stewardship creates within our community and of course riding the awesome terrain that we have here in the area. James Adamson - 3/18/17

I support this project because trails support communities and healthy lifestyles. While I do not live in Plumas County I frequently visit with my family because of the high quality trails in the area and the opportunities for outdoor recreation. I go so far as to plan trips to Plumas county to help with trail building and maintenance projects to give something back to a landscape that I enjoy so much. Trails allow access and access inspires appreciation, respect and stewardship. Trails like the ones in Plumas country create community around shared experience and value for outdoor activity while also creating local job opportunities and sustainable economic activity in the region. Jon Shea - 3/21/17

This grant would fund the necessary NEPA studies to add 18 miles of singletrack on Mt. Hough that would connect existing single track and 4×4 roads. It would also address the safety concern of users crossing the Union Pacific track at the base of Berry Creek and Mt Hough trail in Oakland Camp. Please fund this much-needed opportunity for non-motorized travelers to be able to access and protect this beautiful area. Not only does will allow for environmentally sound stewardship, we will be able to enjoy this area of the wilderness. thank you! Robert Shalit - 3/21/17

I support this project because trails support communities and healthy lifestyles. They encourage family and friends to leave their electronic devices at home and to get out enjoy the beauty that the Sierras have to offer. Without these projects, our trails would fall into disrepair and unsustainable. Additionally these projects create local employment opportunities, the ability for volunteers to get involved in giving back to our trails and growing economies through recreational opportunities. Thank you for making these grants available for these projects. Michelle Greer - 3/21/17

I am a resident of Quincy and one of the primary things that drew me towards this area was the access to the outdoors and the excellent trail system on Mt. Hough. I am a mountain biker, hiker and motorcycle rider and I am very lucky to have the access I have. The Mt. Hough system is excellent and the Mt. Hough trail in particular is quickly becoming a destination for mountain bikes in particular. The new trails that would be built under this grant would be critical connectors to create more continuous top to bottom access on Mt. Hough serving to draw more users of varied abilities to enjoy a special part of Plumas County. Best, Cameron Falconer - 3/21/17

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is doing fantastic things in the greater Quincy area specifically in the Mt. Hough area with the new trails they have constructed and hope to continue to build. The new trails have brought many visitors, especially outdoor enthusiasts, to the area to ride their bikes and spend money at local businesses. Quincy and the Lost Sierra have been put on the map as a mountain biking destination and that is likely to continue with additional projects in the future. The stewardship has also done a fine job of getting locals from the community and visitors involved through fundraising and volunteer trail work days. New and sustainable trails are a benefit for everyone in the community and those who visit the area. Jeremy Benson - 3/21/17

Over the years we as a family have really enjoyed hiking and riding around Downieville and the Lakes Basin. The work that SBTS has done is great, it's clear which trails have been worked on and those that have not. We are all in favor of more trail work taking place in this area, and SBTS is the organization that can get it done. Mark Norstad - 3/21/17

Having lived and spent many weekends, summers and winter breaks visiting family in Quincy for 30yrs I have a special love for the surrounding area and the vast recreational opportunities. I am very pleased to see the progress being made in bringing an amazing network of trails to the same mountains I used to camp and ride ATV/dirt bikes a a little boy. Now that I'm an avid mountain biker I can hardly believe that Quincy has such great trails, and plans for more. Its really great. I support this project because such an amazing area and trail network needs effort and funding to expand it and keep it up. Without strong support and some funds the development of trails woudl not be possible, and existing trails would fall into disrepair and become unsustainable. Additionally, these projects create local employment opportunities, and the ability for volunteers to get involved in giving back to our trails and growing economies through recreational opportunities and promoting health lifestyles. I strongly feel that with the explosion of popularity in mountain biking that Quincy may be sitting on a gold mine. Thank you the consideration for making grants available for this projects. I am a resident of Quincy and a user of the Mt. Hough trail system on a nearly daily basis. The continued maintenance and development of trails in the PNF in the Quincy area has proven to be a benefit to our towns economic and physical health. The maintenance of trails in the Claremont and Snake Lake area to make them more sustainable and accessible will add to the already excellent system we have here and is another step to putting Quincy on the map for outdoor recreation. Please fund the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and Plumas County's ongoing work here, it makes a difference. Best, Cameron Falconer - 3/21/17

I wholeheartedly support this grant application to fund maintenance activities on OHV Trails located in Plumas National Forest (PNF), delivered through a partnership between Plumas County, PNF and Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. I spent a weekend last fall participating in the Grinduro bike race/festival at the Plumas County Fairgrounds in Quincy. I was familiar with the area to the south around the Sierra Buttes and in the lakes basin from camping, fishing and biking with my family, but the area north of Quincy was new to me, and I look forward to a lot of exploring as my kids grow up. I know that Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has made an incredible difference in the quality and extent of the trail network in this area and they have great plans for more. They are improving access for hiking and biking, keeping silt out of streams and rivers, and providing much needed local employment. Please fund them! Heath Maddox - 3/21/17

I live in Quincy, CA and I have been a big supporter of the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and the Lost Sierra Trails that they have been creating in our community. Their trails have increased the recreating abilities and tourism industry in our town, and as a small business owner I have seen an increase in tourism from their trail system. The new trails will continue to benefit both locals and tourists. Thank you, Dale Ready - 3/21/17

Comments :
Mt. Hough is in desperate need of a new trail. It is an incredible mountain and when you get to the peak, it's truly awe-inspiring to see how green and beautiful the lost Sierra is. We must work to protect and provide access to these areas to instill a reverence for natural places. Going up to Mt. Hough with my dad remains a very fond memory, one I would love to be able to share with my children. Megan - 3/22/17

I support this program because more trails in our region provide more opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. I personally use trails on Mount Hough on a regular basis and their continued development and maintenance enhance the quality of life available for residents and visitors to Plumas County. Thank you for making these grants available. Jennifer McQuarrie - 3/22/17

I use these trails to support learning in my environmental science and geology course that I teach at our local community college. I also use these trails to bike and increasingly just walk, since my many was born last summer. While Plumas County has lots of open space, we don't have that many trails. We do have lots of dirt roads, but these are not ideal and/or for walking with children, dogs, or classes, because there is lots of traffic from hunters or logging trucks, depending on the season. So, we need more trials! These trails are great for our local residents, and are also helping to support our small tourism industry, by bringing people hear to bike and re-create. Bridget Tracy - 3/22/17

Plumas County is awash with mountain trails. The building and maintenance of these trails are of the utmost importance and needs to be done on a routine basis. The winter of 2016 was harsh and I am sure that their will be much work to do. The partnership between The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and the United States Forest Service is solid and much good work has been done. Please keep these both physical and mental health building trails intact. Thank You, Laura Rodriguez - 3/22/17

The "Trail Stewardship" provides important recreational opportunities to trail users in our region. They also provide critical employment opportunities to members of our local community. Through community events, courses, and training's, a strong sense of community and place are established in our rural areas. Funding this grant application will serve as an important step in supporting these valuable resources. Saylor Flett - 3/22/17

Please give consideration to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardships proposal for continuing trail work on the Mt. Hough project. The new trails have become popular with dirt bikers and mountain bikers. I am an avid dirt biker and an avid mountain biker. The Mt. Hough trail system serves local and regional riders, and increasingly attracts single track tourists. The proposal serves to create connectivity to existing routes, I support the proposal. Dirt bikers will continue to learn about the project and numbers will grow. By providing more connectivity and more total mileage, Mt. Hough will increasingly act as a destination. Please give the SBTS proposal full consideration. Rick Stock - 3/22/17

I support the project for building trails on Mount Hough because public recreational trails support communities and healthy lifestyles. The community greatly benefits from trails in good condition. The trails need to be maintained to be sustainable and protect the land while allowing public recreation. Additionally these projects create local employment opportunities, and support the local economies through recreational opportunities. Tanya Garcia-Nolen - 3/22/17

I support the trail stewardship for many reasons. First and foremost it gives hikers, bikers and outdoor enthusiasts the ability to access the endless breathtaking terrain of Plumas and Sierra counties. I have witnessed the tremendous growth of this community and the positive impact the tourism has had on local businesses. The Stewardship brings together people from all over that share a love for the outdoors. They work hard to establish and maintain the area trails for all to enjoy. They have a passion and love for our community. Due to their hard work and dedication I have finally been able to meet my long term goal, which was living in Plumas County full time. I am so excited to see what they have in store for us. I am proud to be a volunteer. After this wild Winter, I know the trails are in dire need of some TLC and I trust the Trail Stewardship to get them back in great condition. Nicole Gulla - 3/23/17

Plumas County really needs these trails- please support this important effort that will increase recreational opportunities for locals as well as tourists. Completing this trail system will create local jobs, bring more tourists, and create a sustainable trail system that will benefit Plumas County for decades if not longer. Thank you for your support! David Arsenault - 3/23/17

I am writing in support of this grant as it personally effects my family and friends. The greater Quincy area has become my families go to recreation destination and as a result we have made lifetime friends. This grant will help to provide some of those friends jobs and volunteer opportunities for those that desire to improve their community. Thank you. Daniel Kuhns - 3/24/17

I was first introduced to the SBTS via a fund raising race in the Lake Davis area. I was so impressed with the entire event and all the people involved. From the first time I visited Downieville and greater area I feel in love with the entire trail system. I have driving up from Sacramento a number of times just to ride the local trails. Those weekend always include supporting the local business. Everyone at the Downieville Outfitters is so welcoming and supportive and cares so much about the area. Since then I have participated in public trail days, become a member and participated in trail days. The SBTS are amazing stewards of the land. I have never run into a more organized, positive and engaged group of trail lovers. The the trails they work so hard to maintain are so important to the larger cycling community and most importantly, illustrate what I means to be good land stewards and environment in general. I am writing to support the addition of trails in the Downieville area as proposed by SBTS. I believe that this further work will continue to enhance the reputation of this area as a premier outdoor recreation destination, and also I really want to ride them! I am from the Sacramento area, and have greatly valued the previous work done by SBTS on behalf of our community, and hope that they will have all available support in continuing to do the same. Peter Knudsen - 3/24/17

I am writing to voice my support for this project. Growing the trail network around Mount Hough ensures the continued growth of cycling tourism to Plumas County. As a Sacramento County resident I regularly choose to travel to Plumas County to enjoy the amazing trails and cool weather in the summer. I am passionate about the healthy lifestyle and strong cycling community and hope to see more of that in Plumas county. I want to see local employment opportunities grow to allow people passionate about these projects find long term residence in Plumas County. Jennifer Teerlink - 3/24/17

The proposed new single track would be a great connecting piece for Mt. Hough. The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has brought thousands of people to Quincy that would have never stopped in before there was a multi-use trail network. Continuing to develop this area will only bring more tourists which can only help the local economy. Also the Stewardship has a kids program in the area that teaches young kids important lessons about preserving and enhancing our National Forests. In conclusion the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is an amazing organization that helps bring people together that share a common connection. Without the Stewardship the areas they work in would be much worse off, so PLEASE grant them the money they're asking for. Jacob Helm - 3/24/17

trails of Mt. Hough one time, however I was blown away by the quality of trails in the area and adding even more would be a great thing for the quincy region. As such I very much support these projects. Thank you for making these grants available for these projects and for taking the time to read this comment. Justin Eagleton - 3/24/17

I support this project because people with healthy, active lifestyles go and spend money where places like this exist. As more and more localities realize the sustained benefits of projects like this there will be more competition. Now is the time to act and make this a legacy project that we can leave future generations. I also support these types of projects by volunteering my time to assist building projects therefore stretching the funding as possible. Doug Frederick - 3/24/17

I strongly support this project to continue the growth of trails on Mount Hough. This part of the Sierra's is prime for trail-making and recreating. I spend many weekends in the summer in the area from out of town, and thus spend my money in the local economy. Not only will these trails draw people in from out of town for recreation, but they will provide local jobs to the immediate area. I cannot wait to see what beautiful, sustainable developments come from these trails on Mount Hough. Thank you for making these grants possible. Ana Pimsler - 3/24/17

I love to recreate in the Sierras and look forward to trail networks in this area with friends and family. I fully support all manner of trail recreation in Plumas county and hope to visit soon. Jon Heyliger - 3/24/17

I support this project because trails support communities and healthy lifestyles. We are avid mountain bikers and are so grateful for access to high quality trails close to home. We also appreciate the fact that out of town folks visit the trails and spend time in our communities as tourists, helping our economy. We recently had our first child and we are excited to spend time with her on the local trail systems, hiking and biking for many years to come. I just wanted to voice my support for this grant and the continued existence of recreational trails in Plumas County and Mount Hough. Multi-use trails are great and I enjoy visiting Plumas County for a wide variety of recreational modes, from backcountry skiing, hiking, mountain biking and riding dirt bikes. Thank you! Kevin Sevier - 3/27/17

I would like to see this effort receive the full funding available. Trails not only support the local community but also give outdoor options to the entire public. Without these projects there would be less outdoor activities available, less jobs, and less reason for folks to visit the area. Tourism is an important revenue generator for the area and the trails are a huge reason for people to visit. Thank you for making these grants available for these projects Todd B - 3/27/17

With all the urban sprawl going on in N. Ca, we need places where we can get outside, get exercise, and enjoy some of the main reasons we live in California. I support this project, because these trails help give people like me those opportunities. These trails are so important to our community and without projects like this, they would fall into disrepair. These project create local employment and grow struggling local economies. Thank you for making these grants available for these projects. Adam Kirkland - 3/27/17

I support funding this project. With California's ever-growing population it's important to build new trails. Many of the current ones are environmentally unsustainable. Or they're in Wilderness areas, which means they're not well maintained and mountain bikers are excluded from them. Thank you. Ted Stroll - 3/27/17

Mt Hough's popularity among trail users has spiked tremendously in the last two years due to the trail's construction. More trails equals more variety. More reason to come to Quincy and help support our businesses. We are a town that doesn't thrive on tourism but is surely ready for it and this is a great way help us out. I live in Quincy and am a mountain biker so I've noticed the huge increase in trail use. People are always asking me where to eat or to stay. More trails are good for this community. The Mt. Hough trail system gets a ton of traffic throughout the year so it only makes sense to grant the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship some money to maintain it. The Stewardship brings in hundreds of volunteers and racers to the area each year which is absolutely helping the local economy. Without the grant money the Stewardship is limited in what they are able to accomplish. Providing living wage jobs and building a world class trail network seems like a great reason to give them the money they are asking for. Jacob Helm - 3/24/17

I support this project for ground operations at Mount Hough. Without the support of full-time employees I believe it to be a challenge to maintain the trails necessary to draw in people from out of town. The trails in the Lost Sierra region are the prime reason that I come from out of town, and support the local economy, as do many others. This is a beautiful region that deserves the care and hard work these folks are willing to give. I cannot wait to see how these projects take shape. Thank you for making these grants possible! As a board member for the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, I am grateful for the opportunity to utilize our non-profit to serve the economies of Plumas and Sierra counties. The Mt. Hough trail system provides a truly unique opportunity for world class multi use trails close to town. It is quickly becoming a revered destination for motorized and non-motorized users from all over California. We believe that the economic development opportunities presented by increasing the number and quality of trails in this area is unprecedented. This system when thoughtfully developed and maintained will provide users a world class trail system for generations to come. Jesse Passafiume - 3/24/17

I support this project because it helps to open up unmatched recreation opportunities in the "Lost Sierra" that would otherwise be impossible to access. Funding spent here also has a multiplier effect on economic development and employment in the area. Without these funds, the trails would degrade, resulting in environmental and economic damage. Thank you for providing this funding. Mark Alexander - 3/28/17

Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has done and continues to do a great job of maintaining and restoring multi use trails in the area. Aside from just the labor, they do a great job of pointing out the history of the area and along the trails. Growing up in Plumas County I am excited to see somebody taking the lead and offering the labor to promote public access to our beautiful area. SBTS has been an integral part in helping small communities like Downieville adapt beyond the loss of industry like mining and logging. One thing SBTS understands is that a mountain bike friendly trail will also make a great hiking trail. Where as hiker designed trails don't always make bike friendly trails. As a multi sport trail user, I appreciate I am as welcome on the SBTS trails on bike or foot. Thank you for your time and consideration, Tom Embree - 3/29/17

Well maintained trails provide excellent recreation opportunities, and minimize impact on the land by keeping people to the trails. Excellent trails make it great for people to stay on the trail and discourages creation of unofficial, social, pirated trails. Thanks for supporting this project! Emily Hargraves - 4/1/17

I support this project, because these trails not only bring me to the area, but they maintain trails that would not be sustainable without these efforts. I support the healthy lifestyle that the use of these trails bring and the economic growth opportunities they provide to those living in the area. These projects also employ people in the area and provide volunteering opportunities that I take part in with the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship. I love these trails and I love this area, and I don't want to see it slowly disappear as trails and areas become lost due to disrepair and no maintenance. Thank you for these grant opportunities and what they provide to this vital area. Peter Etcheverry - 4/1/17

Additionally these projects create local employment opportunities, the ability for volunteers to get involved in giving back to our trails and growing economies through recreational opportunities. Thank you for making these grants available for these projects. I am a nurse and a mother. I care about the health of our community. We need to support healthy lifestyles with public parks and open space. I see the results of sedentary lifestyles everyday. Stroke, Heart Attack, slow healing wounds for diabetics- I could go on. It's no joke. Let's support building a healthier world. Thank you. Kirsten Spinelli - 4/2/17
