Safety and Education Programs

Following the mission of the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation:

The Mission of the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division is to provide leadership statewide in the area of off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation; to acquire, develop, and operate state-owned vehicular recreation areas; and to otherwise provide for a statewide system of managed OHV recreational opportunities through funding to other public agencies.  The OHMVR Division works to ensure quality recreational opportunities remain available for future generations by providing for education, conservation, and enforcement efforts that balance OHV recreation impacts with programs that conserve and protect cultural and natural resources.

Prairie City strives to provide education and safety programs for the general public. Our safety programs include ATV Safety Institute certification, Motorcycle Safety Foundation instruction, and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association programs. Each program is a partnership working with the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and California State Parks. During these programs, licensed instructors teach the public about safe and responsible OHV use. A series of exercises build your skills and invite all participants to feel confident and safe when riding either in their SVRA or on other public lands.  Other programs focus on the many resources that are found in the park from the Blue Oak grove to the Vernal Pool’s found at the North end of the park. Through hands-on interactive programs at special events, community outreach and Interpretive programs at the park, Prairie City SVRA’s interpretive team teaches visitors about responsible OHV use, safety, rider ethics, and awareness and protection of the parks natural and cultural resources. Most recently, some of our programs focus on the use of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. This new part of many school curriculum goes hand and hand with Off-Highway Vehicles.
