GRANT COMMENTS/AMADOR COUNTY SHERIFF/LAW ENFORCEMENT/ PROJECT G12-03-50-L01

District 36 Motorcycle Sports Committee SUPPORTS this Law Enforcement Grant.

D36 also appreciates that Amador County has identified OHV In-Lieu Funds, and has directed those funds for OHV LE/Search & Rescue*(1) funding, and listing as a portion of matching funds.

We appreciate the applicant making mention of “Education” as well as enforcement when necessary, but the education portion of a stop, especially with younger riders – probably carries more weight long term with user community in keeping the public acknowledging that LE is not “just” for citations. Please focus on education on high use holiday weekends where possible.

We also appreciate the communication/agreements with other partners in LE; Stanislaus NF, ED County Sheriff, Alpine & Calaveras counties, etc. This is a good collaborative effort. We also appreciate that the application includes supplies beyond just patrol expense, and acknowledge medical supplies within the grant itself. This makes excellent sense as in many cases, ACSO will be first responder on site.

Amador County has great recreation opportunity for OHV available, and draws many families from the central valley, Sacramento area, and when special events take place, it draws from the entire state . Additionally, the newer type of OHV vehicle, 4 wheel ROV’s, has brought many new families into the sport of OHV recreation – and despite the economy – these are the fastest growing segment in the world of this type of recreation. This will increase usage in the Amador County based area, specifically as outlined in the application.

Additional comment:
Please schedule staff with enough lead time to avoid overtime pay. More LE coverage if your funding is straight time which benefits the public the most.

*(1) As this area can be high use, D36 suggests you consider a Grant for next year within education and safety, and submit a separate grant to assist with Search & Rescue, which would apply with Amador County – specifically because year round OHV recreation takes place, and higher elevations have specific challenges within the area recreation takes place.

District 36 requests and supports FULL FUNDING of this Law Enforcement Grant Application as submitted, $15,369.00. [David Pickett, Director & President, AMA District 36 - 3/27/13]

I would like to support my support for Grant project # G12-03-50-L01 Ar someone who recreates in the Eldorado Forrest and surrounding areas with my family regularly I appreciate all that this type of Grant provides. The extra Law enforcement made available by this OHV funding provides a wealth of services that may go unknown, including the ability to call a vast array of resources from medical response to search and rescue. They may be the first responder upcountry areas, maybe the only responder depending on the availability of resources and volunteers (who may work during the day) . Thank you for applying for this important piece of my family's safety. [Jerry Fouts - 3/28/13]

We are in support of  Grant Project #G12-03-50-L01  Law Enforcement, Amador County Sheriff’s Office.
Our family are cabin owners in the Bear River Summer Home Tract, in Amador County.  We are snowmobilers, ATV users and 4-Wheel drive enthusiasts.  We use all the amenities that are offered for recreation.  It would be good to have an officer along the highway 88 area in the Eldorado National Forest along with education and medical response if needed. We pay OHV fees for 9 vehicles and think that it is a good idea to apply these fees for this grant.
