OHV Title

Alameda County Sheriff's Office

This project will provide the basic level of law enforcement needs to non-maintained roads that are bordered by both USFS land and private property. This project will also extend law enforcement services to lands within the Amador Ranger District of the El Dorado National Forest. The project will include patrols, public contacts, and OHV operation education and direction.

Actual monetary request would cover patrol personnel compensation, safety equipment refills, vehicle expenses, etc. Well written and reasoned. Focus on education and patrols during times of high use especially applicable to OHV funding. [Diana Mead, CORVA, Asst to N. Director, Grants - 3/26/12]

Funding request to cover patrolling of illegal OHV use and assistance for Carnegie SVRA during special event weekends.

The grant amounts are reasonable and supportable, unlike last years request. As a parent of a competitor during the referenced four special event weekends, I appreciate the night hour presence of the Sherriff’s. The promoter seems to require help maintaining order, regulating underage drinking, etc. On the other hand, I am resentful that OHV funding must be spent on this kind of activity. The promoter should be bearing the expense with back up from the Sherriff’s. [Diana Mead, CORVA, Asst to the N. Director, Grants - 3/26/12]

Grant request is partially for two new dual purpose motorcycles to replace aging equipment. Although I question categorizing these bikes as "safety equipment", the choice of vehicle seems appropriate and I recommend funding this request. Curious that there is no resale value for the used equipment noted under matching funds.

The second part of the request, for personnel funding, is misleading. The reference to Carnegie SVRA in San Joaquin County might suggest that this department is offering support to this park. In reality, Alameda County Sherriff's Department has responsibility for Carnegie SVRA. Please keep this in mind when evaluating this request. [Diana Mead, CORVA, Asst to N. Director, Grants - 3/24/12]
