OHV Title

Riverside County Sheriff's Department

Preliminary Application Comments

I have read the State Parks OHV grant application for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. While I am certain the Riverside Sheriff's dept has its issues with illegal OHV in the county, this problem is not well balanced by opportunity. They state in their grant that there is opportunity at Perris Raceway and Wildomar. Perris is a private race track that has only competitive use. Wildomar is a tiny area (8miles of trails) that gets law enforcement money from a grant through the Cleveland National Forest. They also talk about BLM land out in the desert. The Palm Springs BLM office is asking for $251,000 for law enforcement for its area. Riverside County offers no OHV opportunity and has a very low match to its law enforcement grant request. I recommend this grant be put behind other law enforcement grants so that grants that truly benefit OHV recreation are more fully funded. [Ed Stovin, CORVA - 4/5/09]
