USFS - Sierra National Forest
Preliminary Application Comments
I have reviewed the Grant proposal for 2009 and I am very disappointed in the overall request for money. I see money for Management, Technician, Aquatics Specialists, Hydrology Specialists, Heritage Recourse Specialists, Wildlife Specialists, and Botany Specialists. Unless I have missed it, I don’t see any money requested that will actually be used for work in the NF like repair water bars on the roads and trails to prevent erosion, brushing to make the trails so a rider can see and be safe to travel. Where is money to hire someone to travel and clear trash from the roadway. Where is money to improve staging areas that have been requested by OHV and equestrian clubs for parking and turn around. Where is money to fix and maintain campgrounds and picnic areas instead of closing them down. I could go on, but I think you get my point. This is what my green sticker money is supposed to be used for, to save the forest FOR the people not FROM the people. I am requesting that your grant application be denied unless M and O money is requested to do much needed maintenance on our NF. Many volunteers are available and will spend hours to help match this request. We are already spending time picking up trash and clearing downed trees as the snow melts from the roadways and trails.
Ed, thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments about my real concerns for our National Forest. [Narvell Conner, Central California Quad Riders - 4/6/09]
